UFC® LIVE ON VERSUS HEADLINER JON “BONES” JONES
TO THROW OUT CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCH AT
SAN DIEGO PADRES GAME FRIDAY, JULY 30
Las Vegas, NV (USA) –Just days before UFC’s Jon “Bones” Jones takes on Vladimir Matyushenko live on VERSUS, the San Diego Padres will honor the rising light heavyweight in the team’s Major League Baseball game this Friday, July 30 at 6:58 PM PT.
Jones, in town for his UFC fight at San Diego Sports Arena on Sunday, Aug. 1, will throw the ceremonial first pitch and kick off the Padres game against the Florida Marlins.
“I love San Diego and I’m excited to do the first pitch for the Padres,” Jones said. “I’m going to try to throw a strike for the fans on Friday, and then give them a knockout Sunday.”
WHO: UFC ON VERSUS HEADLINER JON “BONES” JONES
WHAT: Throws ceremonial first pitch prior to Padres vs. Florida game
Adrienne Simmons, a local fighter that has trained at several Atlanta gyms and fought locally, has passed away after fighting this weekend in Florida.
Khunpon, on his way to Florida, confirmed to David Oblas of GeorgiaFighters.com at 9 pm tonight that unfortunately Adrienne passed away.
Adrienne was competing in the IKF Kickboxing Tournament in Florida this weekend and was in the Championship Bout for her weight class. She was knocked out and unresponsive. She was then rushed to the hospital and had surgery for brain bleeding and swelling and went into a coma.
"I have waited to make my statement about the terrible tragedy that has occurred this past weekend at IKFs because I wanted there to be time for all involved especially those closest to Adrienne to have a chance to tell their friends and hav...e their time to process this horrific event, but I feel there are some things that I need to say. What I was hoping would be a wonderful day turned out to be the absolute worst day of my entire life. I had anticipated a great weekend of being around and getting to participate in what I love – Muay thai. I could never have imagined that the weekend would end with me being called into a room by a sheriff to inform me that I am being interviewed for a homicide investigation. I have literally been inconsolable since that moment. I did not know what it really felt like to cry. I was and am broken.
I returned home to be greeted by my amazing parents who drove to my house in Louisville to be with me and tell me in person that they love me and that they are behind me. They also drove down to tell me that my grandmother had died this morning as well. I do not add these details to evoke pity or draw attention to me. In fact, I am done talking about my hurt and my pain because it is only self-serving and would evoke pity and condolences from people that I just don’t want or feel like I deserve. Any energy or thought in this matter must go to Adrienne and Chike. I mention these details because they have helped to bring me to what I am about to say:
A piece of me died in the ring yesterday with Adrienne. I will never get it back…not even in time – it will not heal this, period. However, my initial visceral reaction when I was told by the police officers was a hysterical fit that I will never fight again. To be honest, I am terrified to step into the ring and I don’t know how I will be able to…but again, this is not about me. My grandmother was one of the strongest people I have had the privilege of knowing and Adrienne was one of the bravest. I know that my grandmother would tell me I am being weak and wasteful and I truly believe that Adrienne would want me to continue to fight because if this situation was reversed, I would have wanted her to do the same.
We both love this sport, it is more than what we do, it is a part of who we are and if I spend the rest of my life avoiding Muay Thai, then we both die. I say this because long before the IKF tournament, I had accepted a rematch bout with a very tough dutch girl I had fought last year. This was the toughest fight I have ever had. It is scheduled for Aug 29th in Suriname. I think I have to go through with it. I have to find some way to make myself train and prepare for this match because I feel it needs to be done to commemorate Adrienne. She deserves nothing less. In fact, she deserves more than a bout in her memory, she deserves change. I cannot let her death be in vain. The Kickboxing community needs to make something positive from this tragedy and I’ll do whatever I can to facilitate it. I do not expect everyone to agree with me or even to understand where I am coming from. All that I ask is that you do not judge me. I of course will not proceed with the fight unless I have the support of Chike and those closest to Adrienne because I wish to do nothing that those who knew her best would deem disrespectful. So please…no responses to this post unless it is a way we can begin to make things better."
---Lindsay
A little bit later she posted...
Lindsay Scheer
"Words cannot describe my gratitude for all of the support that everyone has given me. I am overwhelmed by everyone's compassion even more so by the kindness and concern I have been given by those who knew and loved Adrienne. your strength to reach out to me in a time when it would have been so easy to do otherwise has and will continue to help me through this dark time. I am truly touched."
Lindsay Scheer "I would also like to thank the entire Muay thai/fighting community for being by my side. I had anticipated that the media and those who are not familiar with our sport would try to take this tragedy and twist it in a way to ruin what we love as well as my name. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate all of you for standing up for me in a time when it is simply hard to just stand. I am so grateful."
Exclusive Interview with UFC’s Brian Stann
Written by Penny Buffington
Brian Stann current UFC fighter and former WEC light heavyweight title holder drops down to the middleweight class and is prepared to fight Mike Massenzio UFC Live Sun, Aug 1 on Versus. The main event of the night will be Jon Jones vs. Vladimir Matyushenko. Vladimir will be a guest on MMA2DAY for an exclusive pre-fight interview the day of the event. Details at: http://pennyjomma.com/
Stann a recent guest on MM2DAY 7/25- seems happy with his decision to drop weight. He told MMA2DAY, “This is going to be my first time. It is a more natural weight for me. I started to cut in April actually. There is a little bit of a shrinking process, just to try and get myself a little bit smaller. But my last fight at 205, I woke up and at weigh-ins I was already a half a pound under so I didn’t even have to cut any weight. This really doesn’t work well for me when most of the guy’s game plans are to take me down and hold me down. I need to be the bigger stronger guy, more difficult to take down and more difficult to hold down, so that I can go ahead and impose my will with strikes.”
Brian is well known for his former service in the military. He explained how he continues his service, “I spent 9 years in the Military; the Naval Academy and Marine Corps. Although I am not active duty now I still stay pretty involved with the military and I run a charity called Hire Heroes USA which is a nonprofit organization which helps veterans transition between workforce and finding a job.”
“We have a 3 phase program where we work with the veteran on helping them with their resume writing skills, their interviewing skills, strategic planning to find the right job, or the right employer and what they want to do. We try to help them find and job and move them on into the next phase of their life.” The website is http://www.hireheroesusa.org/
Recent activity at Hire Hereos USA
“I think it is impossible to focus 100% of my time on fighting. I think it would be a mistake if I did. No fighter does, trust me. I don’t care how hard they say they train. There are only so many hours they can actually physically train. I’d say 90% of the fighters are off playing video games most the day. Between practices they aren’t doing a lot of constructive things with their time. For me I’m just a busy body. I’m training 2, 3, 4 times a day and between those sessions I’m running this organization and doing other things. My mind needs to be occupied and it’s a good thing for me to have that relief and to have something else besides fighting because I think when a fighter only has that it actually becomes too stressful for him. They over think the fight and they fight a little bit more stiff then they should.”
Brian “All American” Stann says well known coach from Jacksons MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico has no worries when it comes to training him. “My coach Greg Jackson always laughs about, I am the last guy he has to worry about being late to practice, or not showing up for a workout. His main concern with me is usually that I am going to do too much. I think that the Marine Corps certainly gave me a lot of skills and a lot of things that I will carry over into every facet of my life.”
Brian does not seem too concerned with Mike Massenzio 11 - 3 – 0 fight stats. “I’ve been able to watch all the footage I could get on him. It’s pretty much the same style on every fight. He is a world class wrestler. He uses those skills. He likes to get on top of guys and beat them up a little bit. Maybe, an occasional arm lock here or there. But it’s going to be his ability to take me down, my ability to stop the takedown, my ability to work from my back and get up, my ability to reverse position and get top control.”

The trailer you all have been checking out is just a teaser. It is NOT what you can expect to see on NBC affiliates when it goes to air this Sept. It's just a low qauilty teaser video- can't really make out the fighters names.
Ultimate Women’s challenge is a women’s based reality show set to air on NBC.
It is important to note that while NBC will air the show, the show is not created by NBC. It is only being syndicated by the network. There will be more info regarding this show next week.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE the UFC!! we are NOT in a competition and YES Dana knows about our show.
Jon Jones and Vladimir Matyushenko both
feeling confident pre fight
written by Penny Buffington
39 year old veteran mixed martial arts fighter Vladimir Matyushenko will fight the young fast rising MMA star Jon Jones live on Versus, Aug 1st. UFC Live, the main event.
Jones is a resident of NY State where mixed martial arts competition is illegal. Good thing for him the fight is slated to take place in San Diego, California. The 23 year old will be going into the fight with a record of 10 wins and 1 loss. Ironically the 1 loss was to another NY mixed martial arts UFC fighter, Matt Hamill.
During the UFC media conference on July 22 Jones told Penny Buffington of MMA2DAY and other members of the press how he hopes one day mixed martial arts competitions will be legalized in his home state. “What I do is prepare myself to be respectful at all times. I try to respect everyone and try to show to the everyday person that you run into that yes I am that UFC Fighter guy; but you don’t hear me swearing , you don’t hear me doing crazy things, you will never ever catch me in a bar fight. I try to carry myself like a martial artist and show people this is a beautiful art form; that this is something that we should take pride in. As a UFC fighter we should stand out in a crowd, almost like a monk would or a Knight would or any warrior throughout history. Warriors in history where not punks! They were honorable and respectful men and that is what I try to do and New Yorkers will get the hint that this is a beautiful thing; that it helps high schools, with kids self esteem and everything.”
Both men are feeling confident going into the fight Jon explained, “I’m really big on confidence. I think believing in yourself is very key. I feel as if I should be the underdog in this fight and I just believe in myself that I can beat a guy with a 24 and 4 record. That is a very impressive record. Yeah this guy is not flashy or exciting or dynamic but with 24 wins; you know how to win a fight and I see that. So I just believe in myself and I’m training to the point where I feel as if I deserve to win. When I’m sitting up there and I’ve experienced it, I want to know I’ve done everything right and I’ve trained hard. I’ve stuck through it and I’ve just trained to the point where you have got no choice but to be confident.”
Vladimir said, “With any fight you should have confidence or you shouldn’t be fighting that’s for sure but the concern is there always. It’s not nervousness, but you have to be cautious of certain things. You don’t want to do anything stupid in the fight, but there is definitely confidence there.”
Matyushenko will have much more to say during his pre fight interview with MMA2DAY airing the day of the event. Go to PennyJoMMA.com for details.

Andrew “The Butcher” Hartley- Writer, Pro Boxer and MMA Fighter
A healthy, healed and raring to go Brock Lesnar will put his UFC heavyweight belt on the line on July 3rd 2010. He will face off against the well respected undefeated contender Shane Carwin. Shane holds a full-time job as a civil and mechanical engineer in northern Colorado as well as the interim UFC heavyweight title, after he defeated the 2 time heavyweight title holder Frank Mir back in March.
The bout was originally set for UFC 106 when Brock became very ill from an illness he didn’t even know he had- diverticulitis, and had to pull out of the fight. After professional care, time and a new stringent diet he is set for his return.
He did say he misses, "A big bowl of fruity pebbles at 10 o’clock at night" though.
At a UFC media conference held today June 22, 2010 Brock was assuring the media his past health issues and almost 1 year away from competition would not have an effect on the outcome of the fight. With statements given to MMA2DAY and other members of the media such as, “I believe the way I went to college and the division 1 title that I have, I believe, I have gotten a lot accomplished in my wrestling. I’ve a lot of confidence in my coaching staff and my training partner. I surround myself in this camp with former division 1 and division 2 national champions so I'm coming in this fight well prepared for my opponent that's for sure.”
Lesnar trains primarily with Minnesota Martial Arts Academy. He brought in Randy Couture to help prepare him for the fight. Randy is a UFC three-time former heavyweight champion and a two-time light-heavyweight champion and before that he was an Olympic wrestling alternate.
This was done to combat the fact that Shane Carwin wrestled in college, becoming a two-time NCAA Division II Wrestling National Runner-Up Heavyweight in 1996–97 and the NCAA II Wrestling Heavyweight National Champion in 1999. He was also a two-time All-American in football for Western State.
Brock states, “Randy Couture has more wresting credentials then Goldstein and I put together.” He also said, “We complement each other and we degrade each other. You know the biggest compliment is honesty. It makes you a better fighter.”
Continuing to speak of Randy Lesnar said, ‘I've got to really take my hat off to the guy. When he came in to my training camp I was very impressed with him.”
35 year old Carwin holds an MMA record of 12 wins with no losses. He began his UFC career in 2008. All 12 of his winning fights have ended in round 1. He trains at one of the most well known camps in the country, Jackson's Submission Fighting.
Lesnar who turns 33 just a few days after the fight clearly takes no fight lightly and that includes Carwin. “I think every fight is a tough fight. There's been no easy fights for me since I stepped foot in the octagon. Shane possesses some different threats that I haven’t had. Being the size and strength and the wrestling. Shane is heavy handed and he is a division 2 national champion wrestler and he's got 12 fights. I took a different route. I got thrown to the wolves right away, where Shane has been able to get out and cut his teeth a little bit. Where I was thrown into the cage right away and had big fights right away so every fight is a big fight and whether or not I’ve prepared for them. I believe that I am.”
It’s been almost a year we have waited for Brocks return. “I'm excited to get in there again and be a part of it. I put my heart and soul and my whole life into my training camp. I'm very confident that I am going to win that night. I think I am going to win and I think Shane thinks I am going to win”
Shane on the other hand states, “I've got that never quit attitude, a lot of heart, determination and you know what? I love to get in there and I love to bang and I like to fight. This is what I was born to do. This is what I love to do and I'm passionate about it.”
A reporter from Scotland asked Brock if there were any aspects of when he was the main event for WWE that he would use for situations like July the 3rds main event fight. To which he responded, “The main thing I can take from WWE is that it’s basically the same thing. We are promoting a big fight. It involves sports entertainment and this is a sport and entertainment. The main difference is this is real and WWE wasn’t. The WWE always lifted big PPV’s and this is the same thing. I just got to get out and execute and fight for real.”
No disrespect intended, “If it wasn’t for the WWE and all the visibility I got worldwide and that is what I bring to the table for the UFC. This is somewhere in the 30's of PPV that I have participated in. I've headlined and main evented probably 25 PPV events. Like I said this isn’t my first rodeo. I enjoy it and I've got no nerves, no jitters. I am well prepared. If it weren’t for the WWE I wouldn’t be as well prepared as I am now.”
Brock’s response to being asked if he thought he would win in a fight with Fedor, “Absolutely I can beat anybody.”
It may be the 4th of July weekend but for the real fireworks look to the cage on July 3rd. Live on PPV. From the MGM Grand Garden Arena located in Las Vegas Nevada. Visit UFC.com for the full fight card.

I of course will not proceed with the fight unless I have the support of Chike and those closest to Adrienne because I wish to do nothing that those who knew her best would deem disrespectful. So please…no responses to this post unless it is a way we can begin to make things better."
